Enter Dartmoor in a day – The Winter Traverse (Non Hospiscare Entries)

This February, your local hospice charity, Hospiscare is asking local businesses to walk beside them and support end-of-life care in their community by taking on a challenge with a difference. One that will develop teamworking skills, cultivate trust and communication, hone competitive spirit and break down barriers to achieve something incredible.

Enter….Dartmoor in a Day: The Winter Traverse

This time, you’ll start at Princetown and we’re challenging you and your team to trek 30km across wild and rugged Dartmoor all the way to Meldon. Highlights along the way include Roos Tor, Tavy Cleave, Chat Tor and the Rattlebrook dismantled railway.

This challenge is achievable by anyone with a good level of running/walking fitness – however, weather is always a factor on Dartmoor but even more so in February. Paired with the small number of daylight hours to consider and difficult terrain underfoot, you’ll need to dig deep to reach the finish. But you will be thoroughly looked after by the team at Climb South West; their qualified Mountain Leaders and experienced guides will be out on the course to support you.

This is your chance to come together as a team and help to provide expert end-of-life care, dignity and comfort to local people and their loved ones during some of the most difficult times imaginable.

The route is mainly across wild areas of open moor without any way markings. You can view the route via the Outdoor Active link below, but we recommend using it alongside OL 28 Dartmoor (1:25,000) or BMC Dartmoor (1:40,000) maps. A GPX file will also be available for those that would like to use GPS. Full information on mandatory and suggested kit will be in your participant handbooks. We will add a copy here as soon as it’s available.

Maps can be downloaded below on the Outdoor Active app. Please note that the 30km takes the same line as the 50km from Princetown.

As this is a challenge event rather than a race, cut off times at our final checkpoint will be very generous. Transport to the end of the event will be available if anyone doesn’t manage to complete the distance.

Coach Transport

Coach transport for this event will be available to book through your SiEntries account. This will take you from the end to the start BEFORE the challenge and will enable you to run/walk back to your car.
